Based in South Wales and employing over 1,000 people, the Royal Mint is a department of government and its primary responsibility remains the provision of the United Kingdom coinage.

Objective

In addition to being the largest producer of coins in the UK, the organisation also supplies a wide range of prestigious coin, medal collections and related items such as jewellery. One of the growing channels for these products is the Royal Mint website.

There are currently hundreds products for sale through the website and new products are developed and published to the website on a daily basis. Managing content on the site is the responsibility of the Marketing Department's New Media section, with content contribution coming from a number of different areas.

In order to simplify the existing web site management process, it was recognised that a CMS solution was required to reduce the maintenance effort and ensure brand consistency.

Solution

The end solution from Activedition was required to  integrate with the Royal Mints Sales Order Processing System. The eCommerce solution required XML import of products on a nightly basis with an export of orders for fulfilment.

Using the Activedition Structured Content Management and the Activedition Metadata Module products could be catalogued and classified in a consistent manner. To enhance the end user experience and to enhance usability faceted searches e.g. searching by occasion, product type or gender, were provided based on Metadata classifications.

In addition to providing a range of professional services, Accessibility Compliance, Configurable Workflow Management, Document Library and deployment of an Intranet Solution were all important aspects of the project.

Client Testimonial

Activedition has allowed us to centralise the management of all our online content while enforcing the corporate style throughout the website. As more and more user departments are trained to contribute content, we anticipate some considerable time savings. There are many features within Activedition that we have found to be particularly useful including the availability of real-time page visit statistics, the searchable multimedia library, enforcement of website styles and disabled accessibility requirements.Case Study Quote
