Based in Edinburgh, Origo was launched by sixteen leading life assurance companies in June 1989 to facilitate the development of electronic trading between principals and agents for Life, Pensions and Collective Investment business.
Origo, the UK's financial services industry standards body for eCommerce, set-up an industry initiative to help financial advisers get more out of the eServices made available from Product Providers and system and service suppliers.
As part of this initiative, it became clear that there was a requirement to provide financial advisers with information about eServices in one, accessible place, a website. As the information was to be supplied by a minimum of 27 companies (UK-based) and possibly requiring constant updating, there was a definite need for a content management solution.
Knowing the different types of eServices that are available is one thing, but finding out who can support these eServices and for which products can mean spending quite a lot of time researching. The Matrix is a custom application within the Origo Adviserwise website which enables financial advisers to quickly select the most appropriate product. The Matrix has received positive feedback from the community of users.
In addition to being able to easily manage and maintain content through the Activedition CMS the ability to set up Virtual Areas has also proved useful for campaign management while tailored content management for certain user types has been effective. Features such as the Forum provide an ability to run and monitor newsgroups. It is anticipated that the discussions / questions raised in the Forum will provide a good indication of possible knowledge gaps (with advisers) - enabling the initiative to focus on areas where it is needed most. Statistics to measure success has proven to be vitally important as there are a number of organisations that have committed resources.
