Herbalife is a private sector, multi-national premier wellness company with an annual turnover of over $3.5billion, specialising in simplified nutrition and weight management products. Products are distributed through a global sales network of independent distributors. Currently Herbalife conducts business in 66 countries through more than 1.5 million independent Distributors.

 

Objective

Herbalife had a requirement to be able to provide a number of business tools online to its European-wide distribution network. The specific requirement was to make marketing materials available online to its 1.5 million independent distributors across Europe. The materials also had to be delivered in the specific language of each country.

The control, update and management of these marketing materials had to be a simple task, performed by non-technical members of staff, quickly and easily. The object was to allow business users to operate the web site and ensure timely upload of marketing documentation.

Solution

Activedition was chosen as the Content Management system for the web site because of its ease of use and multi-lingual capabilities. PDF's were to be created by Herbalife in various languages and for various distribution formats, (e.g. email, print outs, and business flyers).

Distributors can search for documents using a faceted search system and document thumbnails for ease of selection. Using a Metadata tagging system, documents can be classified in many ways, allowing users to find the documents they are looking for. A seamless integration with a login system allows for secure access for Distributors and further personalisation through the My Herbalife internet portal. Other features that were included in the updated version were My Favourites, Popular Items, Rate my Document and Most Downloaded.

The updated system which has launched in 2008 has made the organisation and sharing of marketing materials across the network in Europe a simple and intuitive task for the marketing department of Herbalife. The central document library is easy to keep up to date and is the single source for Herbalife's marketing business tools online service to its distributors. The system has been well received by the distributor network and is seen as a real value-add service.

The distributor extranet receives 25,000 hits per month and 120,000 documents are downloaded as a result. The solution also demonstrates the multi-lingual capabilities of Activedition. The system saves Herbalife time and money by making the provision of these business tools a simple and intuitive task.

As a result of the success of the project, the Activedition platform is now being rolled out to support a range of other Herbalife marketing initiatives.
