Careers Scotland is a publicly funded national organisation that delivers career services and advice to individuals, employers, and the learning and guidance community throughout Scotland.
In order to reach a widespread and diverse community of users, Careers Scotland recognised early on that the Internet was a key channel that would effectively enable them to deliver services to their user community.
As part of this, a means for quickly and easily managing and maintaining their online presence was needed. It was essential that their central Web Administration Team should be capable of publishing content without continued support from I.T., and it was critical that there was enough flexibility within any chosen solution to allow them to be proactive towards new initiatives and ongoing delivery of new eServices.
From an end user perspective the solution required to deliver to web accessibility standards and a high degree of optimisation for usability was paramount.
Given the potential size of the community a scalable solution was also an important consideration as was personalised delivery of content and eServices to regional communities.
The Activedition Content Management System provides Careers Scotland with a web content management solution and indeed a platform for delivery of their extended eServices.
The ease of use within the Activedition in-context editing interface makes it easy and intuitive for non-technical users to author and to publish content. Activedition has an inbuilt Accessibility Enforcement feature which facilitates on-going compliance with accessibility guidelines and the Disability Discrimination Act. A number of out-of-the-box features enhance the usability experience e.g. site searches, site maps, breadcrumb trails, in-context menus, etc.
The powerful Activedition Metadata Module provides capability for classifying and categorising content as well as adoption of sector specific taxonomies.
The website is extended with custom functionality to deliver value add eServices to a community of users that includes CV Building, Occupational & Vacancy Matching and Action Planning.
The Careers Scotland site is now a substantial website that contains thousands of pages with a range of eServices. Careers Scotland had a target of 80,000 new registered users for 2007 / 2008, which was exceeded comfortably.
Careers Scotland strives to ensure that all information provided to the user community and partners is as up-to-date and accessible as possible. Activedition enables Careers Scotland to easily manage content without the need for external technical expertise.
The product is very flexible and has continually supported us to meet our organisational objectives, and has scaled to meet increasing levels of demand from our user community. We have a close working relationship with the developers of Activedition, C2 Software, and we value their expertise and ongoing support services
